Hello, fellow jade enthusiasts! I'm Old Zhang, and I've been collecting jade for over thirty years, accumulating a considerable collection. Today, I want to talk about a seemingly simple yet crucial topic: choosing and arranging your jade display cabinet. You might think, it's just a cabinet, how much fuss can there be? But honestly, a good display cabinet not only makes your beloved jade shine but also becomes a powerful assistant in your collecting journey, even helping you avoid many risks.

Scenario Introduction:

I remember when I first started collecting, my cherished jade pieces were casually placed on bookshelves or stored in small boxes. Over time, problems arose: dust accumulation, nicks and scratches, and once, my child playing around almost dropped an old pit imperial jade bangle. That incident gave me a real fright! From then on, I was determined to give my treasures a safe, presentable home that could fully showcase their charm. Through years of exploration and practice, I've gathered some insights, which I'll share with you today without reservation.

Core Techniques: The 'Three Dos and Three Don'ts' Principle for Display Cabinet Selection

One Do: Secure and Stable Material. The material of the display cabinet is paramount. I personally prefer a combination of solid wood and tempered glass. The stability of solid wood complements the warmth of jade, and it has good load-bearing capacity. The glass must be tempered, at least 8mm thick, for shock resistance and security. Never choose inferior boards or ordinary glass for the sake of saving money; that's simply setting up a trap for your treasures.

Two Do: Sealed, Dust-proof, and Moisture-proof. Although jade is hard, prolonged exposure to air can cause dust to adhere, affecting its luster. Especially in humid southern regions, moisture is a great enemy of jade, easily leading to staining or mildew growth on its surface. Therefore, choosing a display cabinet with sealing strips is crucial. I even place a small packet of desiccant inside the cabinet, replacing it regularly to ensure a dry and stable internal environment.

Three Do: Scientific and Reasonable Lighting. Good lighting can perfectly showcase the warmth, translucency, and color of jade. I usually choose LED spotlights with a color temperature between 4000K-5000K. This color temperature is close to natural light and can truly restore the jade's original color. The lamps should preferably be angle-adjustable, allowing you to spotlight specific areas based on the jade's shape and characteristics. Remember not to use overly hot halogen lamps, as prolonged exposure may damage the jade.

One Don't: Avoid Direct Sunlight. UV rays in sunlight have potential harm to jade; long-term direct exposure can cause changes in the internal structure of jade, affecting its texture and color. Therefore, the display cabinet should be placed away from windows or have shading in place.

Two Don't: Avoid Frequent Moving. Once the display cabinet is set up, try not to move it frequently. Every move carries the risk of bumps and knocks, especially for large or structurally complex display cabinets. Choose a suitable fixed position and place it once and for all.

Three Don't: Avoid Contact with Chemicals. Chemical volatile substances such as cleaning agents or air fresheners inside the cabinet can have adverse effects on jade. Maintaining a pure internal environment in the cabinet is a basic requirement for protecting jade.

Real Case and Operating Steps:

I have a custom-made rosewood and glass display cabinet at home, 2 meters long and 1.8 meters high, divided into three layers. Each layer is covered with high-grade velvet to prevent direct contact between the jade and hard surfaces. The cabinet doors use double-layer tempered glass, equipped with German-imported silent hinges and anti-theft locks. Angle-adjustable LED spotlights are installed inside, each with an independent switch, allowing me to adjust according to display needs. For moisture prevention, I placed a small electronic dehumidifying box at the bottom of the cabinet, containing desiccant, which I check and replace regularly. Although this cabinet was expensive, considering the value of the collection inside, I believe this investment is entirely worthwhile.

Experience Summary:

Jade collecting is not just about owning, but also about safeguarding beauty. A carefully chosen and arranged display cabinet is the best care you can give your beloved jade, and a reflection of your taste and style. It allows your jade to shine in a safe environment and brings you peace of mind and joy when admiring and handling it. Remember, details determine success; your treasures always deserve your extra thought. I hope my experience can be helpful to everyone. Wishing all fellow jade enthusiasts happy collecting and that your treasures forever retain their brilliance!
