2026 Spring Auction Jade Market Outlook: Tradition and Innovation Dance Together, Value Return Becomes the Main Theme

As the global economy gradually recovers, the art auction market is once again entering an active phase. The curtain has already risen on the 2026 Spring Auctions, with the highly anticipated jade specialties attracting the attention of collectors and investors worldwide with their unique charm. Based on the preview information successively released by major auction houses, a batch of significant jade lots are making their debut, indicating that this season's jade market will present a positive trend where tradition and innovation coexist, and value return is the main theme.

Market Enthusiasm Continues to Rise, High-Quality Jade is Highly Sought After

In recent years, after a period of adjustment, the jade market is gradually returning to rationality and value. According to incomplete statistics, over the past three years, the average annual growth rate of global jade auction turnover has reached approximately 8%, with high-quality, clearly sourced ancient jades and contemporary jade carvings by renowned masters performing particularly well. It is estimated that the total transaction volume of the jade specialty in the 2026 Spring Auction is expected to exceed 1.5 billion RMB, an increase of over 10% year-on-year, with the transaction rate and premium rate of exquisite jade continuing to remain high.

“The market's understanding of jade is deepening; it no longer blindly pursues 'whiteness' and 'largeness,' but instead focuses more on the jade's quality, craftsmanship, cultural connotations, and historical heritage,” said Professor Li Ming, a renowned jade appraisal expert and Vice President of the China Gem & Jade Association, in an interview. “Especially those Ming and Qing imperial jades with clear provenance and exquisite craftsmanship, as well as representative works by contemporary jade carving masters, their artistic and market values have been fully realized.”

In this spring auction, several auction houses have unveiled their 'star attractions.' For instance, a Qing Dynasty Qianlong period white jade carved 'Nine Dragons Playing with a Pearl' bowl, estimated at up to 80 million RMB, will undoubtedly become the focus of this season's jade auction due to its warm jade quality, exquisite carving, and prominent imperial background. In addition, a batch of modern jade carvings created by contemporary jade carving masters such as Yang Shihua and Cui Lei are also attracting much attention. They incorporate modern aesthetic concepts on the basis of inheriting traditional craftsmanship, demonstrating the innovative vitality of jade carving art.

Technology Empowers Appraisal, Investment Tends Towards Rationality

With the advancement of technology, jade appraisal methods are also becoming increasingly sophisticated. Technologies such as spectral analysis and X-ray diffraction are widely used in the authentication and origin tracing of jade, providing collectors with more scientific judgment bases. This has, to some extent, curbed the circulation of counterfeit and inferior products, purified the market environment, and made investors' decisions more rational.

“The application of technology makes jade collection more transparent and professional,” noted Ms. Wang Li, a senior art agent. “Many collectors now require authoritative testing reports before making a purchase, which is not only responsible for the collection but also a guarantee for their own investment.”

Market Outlook: Diversified Development, Cultural Value Highlighted

Looking ahead, the jade market will show a trend of diversified development. In addition to traditional ancient jade and contemporary jade carvings, some jade categories with regional characteristics and cultural connotations, such as Xinjiang Hetian jade, Liaoning Xiuyan jade, and Henan Dushan jade, will gradually receive more attention. At the same time, with the revival of excellent traditional Chinese culture, jade, as an important carrier of Chinese civilization, will further highlight its cultural value and spiritual attributes.

Experts generally believe that although the market may still experience fluctuations in the short term, in the long run, the investment value of high-quality jade will continue to grow steadily. For collectors, in-depth research into jade culture, improving appraisal skills, and paying attention to famous masters' works will be key to seizing market opportunities. The 2026 Spring Auction will undoubtedly provide an important window for us to glimpse the future direction of the jade market.
