For a long time, Liangshan Southern Red Agate has been highly sought after by collectors and consumers for its unique hues, such as 'persimmon red' and 'cherry red,' and its warm, lustrous texture. However, after years of intensive mining, premium resources in surface and shallow veins have gradually depleted. According to preliminary statistics from the local mining department in Liangshan, the extraction volume of high-quality Southern Red Agate raw stones in the first half of this year decreased by approximately 20% to 25% compared to the same period last year. With the decline in the quality of new materials, a price increase in the future is an inevitable trend.”
Market analysts generally believe that the tightening supply will directly translate to the end market. It is anticipated that within the next 6 to 12 months, the market price of Liangshan Southern Red Agate, especially high-quality varieties like 'persimmon red' and 'flame pattern,' could see an increase of 15% to 30%. “We have already felt the pressure from the production areas. Over the past few weeks, the procurement cost for premium raw stones has significantly risen, and the selection has become increasingly limited,” stated Mr. Zhang, head of a well-known Southern Red Agate brand in Chengdu. “To maintain product quality, we have had to increase our procurement budget, which will ultimately be reflected in retail prices. If consumers have an intention to purchase now, it might be a good time.”
