Hey sisters and jade friends, I'm back! 👋 Today I want to talk about my beloved turquoise and its price trends. As an old player who has been in the jade circle for more than ten years, I have witnessed the magnificent transformation of turquoise from a 'niche gemstone' to a 'new favorite for collectors', and I have also experienced several major ups and downs in its price. Today, I will give you an in-depth analysis of what factors affect the price of turquoise and how it will develop in the future? 🤔
I. The 'Three Carriages' of Turquoise Prices: Quality, Origin, Rarity
- Quality is King! 👑 There is no doubt about this. The quality of turquoise mainly depends on color, porcelain degree, and clarity.
* Porcelain Degree: The higher the porcelain degree, the greater the density, the more compact the structure, and the less likely it is to change color or crack after playing, and the better the patination effect. High-porcelain turquoise feels warm and jade-like, not sandy. I once collected a 'jelly material' that was so high in porcelain that it felt like jade. At that time, its price per gram was more than 30% higher than ordinary turquoise of the same color.
* Clarity: The fewer and finer the iron lines, or even no iron lines, the higher the price. Of course, some naturally formed 'Wulan flower' iron lines, with unique distribution and forming beautiful patterns, will instead increase their artistic value.
- Origin Determines 'Bloodline'! 🌍 Currently, the most sought-after turquoise on the market is from Shiyan, Hubei, especially materials from Yunxian, Zhushan, and Zhuxi. They are known for their high porcelain and high blue. Next are American Sleeping Beauty (discontinued, rare in existence, high price), Persian turquoise, etc. Turquoise from different origins has different physical properties and appearance characteristics, and the price gap is therefore created. For example, for the same high blue, Hubei material may be 20%-50% more expensive per gram than other origins.
- Rarity is the 'Booster'! 🚀 The increasing depletion of high-quality ore is the fundamental reason for the rise in turquoise prices. Especially special varieties like 'Wulan flower' and 'Rapeseed Yellow', due to their unique texture and rarity, their prices have soared. A friend of mine bought a string of top-grade Wulan flower bracelets in 2018 for 80,000 yuan, and now the market value is estimated to exceed 200,000 yuan. This appreciation rate is simply amazing! 📈
II. Fluctuations in Turquoise Prices and My Experience Sharing
I remember around 2010, turquoise was still relatively niche, and the price was relatively affordable. From 2013-2016, with the rise of the antique market, turquoise prices ushered in an explosive growth, especially for high-porcelain and high-blue fine products, whose prices more than doubled. From 2017-2018, the market experienced a certain degree of adjustment, and prices fell somewhat, but fine products remained strong. In the past two years, with stricter environmental protection policies in mining areas, reduced mining volume, and increased market awareness of high-quality turquoise, prices have begun to rise steadily.
My personal advice:
* Beginner Entry: Don't blindly pursue high prices. You can start with good-looking, high-porcelain turquoise at a moderate price to feel its charm first. Exquisite small pieces with a price per gram of 300-600 yuan are a good choice.
* Collection Investment: Focus on high-porcelain, high-blue, unoptimized, and unglued Hubei raw ore. The rarer and more unique the appearance, the greater the future appreciation potential. I personally prefer raw 'Wulan flower' and 'Rapeseed Yellow', which are not only beautiful but also have unique collection value.
* Distinguishing Authenticity: There are many optimized, glued, and dyed turquoise on the market, so you must keep your eyes open! Observe more, learn more, ask more, and it's best to buy from reliable merchants or ask professionals to identify them. I usually use a UV lamp and a magnifying glass to observe, combined with touch, sound (light tapping), and other experiences to judge.
III. Future Trend Prediction: Steady Rise, Fine Products are King!
I believe that the price of turquoise will continue to maintain a steady upward trend in the future. There are three reasons:
- Resource Scarcity: The non-renewable nature of high-quality ore is the fundamental support for its value.
- Cultural Value: As the 'Oriental Sacred Jade', turquoise carries profound cultural heritage and historical value, which will attract more collectors.
- Market Recognition: As people's awareness of turquoise increases, demand will continue to grow.
However, I also want to remind everyone that the future market will be more polarized. The price of ordinary quality turquoise may not fluctuate much, or even have a small risk of falling; while high-porcelain, high-blue, rare varieties of fine turquoise will continue to rise in value and become true hard currency!
So, sisters who want to buy turquoise, now is the time to act! But always remember: buy fine, not much; rather lack than be inferior! 💎
