【Hong Kong, November 20, 2026】Christie's Hong Kong Autumn Sale 2026 concluded successfully yesterday, with the highly anticipated 'Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite' sale performing exceptionally well. The high-end jadeite sector achieved new record sales, demonstrating the sustained pursuit and strong demand from global collectors for top-tier jadeite.
In this autumn sale, the high-end jadeite section featured 72 exquisite lots, with 68 ultimately sold, achieving an impressive sell-through rate of 94.4%, significantly exceeding market expectations. The total transaction value reached an astonishing HK$320 million, an 18.5% increase compared to the same period last year, fully confirming the steady growth trend of the jadeite market, especially for high-quality jadeite and Hetian jade. Among them, a spotlight lot named 'Imperial Green Jadeite Bead Necklace' hammered for HK$88 million, surpassing its pre-sale estimate (HK$60 million - HK$80 million), becoming the highest-priced lot of the sale. This necklace comprises 38 imperial green jadeite beads, each measuring 12.5mm in diameter, boasting rich and even color, and fine, warm texture. Its rarity and perfection are almost unparalleled globally. Another piece, a 'Qianlong White Jade Carved Mythical Beast Motif Vase with Loose Ring Handles', also sold for a high price of HK$45 million, a 50% increase from its lowest estimate (HK$30 million), indicating strong market demand for archaic jade, particularly imperial court masterpieces.
Ms. Anna Stone, Chairman of Christie's Asia Jewellery Department, stated in an interview: “The outstanding performance of high-end jadeite in this autumn sale once again proves the dual value of top-tier jadeite and Hetian jade as scarce resources and artistic treasures. Under global economic downward pressure, high-net-worth collectors are more inclined to invest in hard assets with potential for value preservation and appreciation, and top-tier jadeite is undoubtedly a leader among them. We observe that the buyer base is not limited to Asia; collectors from Europe, America, and the Middle East have also shown strong interest in jadeite with historical provenance and exceptional craftsmanship.”
Market analysts point out that the current high-end jadeite market exhibits several significant characteristics: Firstly, resource scarcity is becoming increasingly prominent, especially with the sharp decline in output of Burmese old pit imperial green jadeite and Xinjiang Hetian pebble jade, leading to a continuous increase in the value of existing masterpieces. Secondly, the trend of global wealth shifting towards Asia has driven consumption upgrades for traditional artworks and luxury goods in the Asian region. Thirdly, the younger generation of collectors has a higher awareness and acceptance of jadeite culture, paying more attention to design, wearing comfort, and the cultural connotations behind jadeite. Furthermore, the continuous improvement and promotion of jadeite appraisal standards by international auction houses and professional institutions have also boosted collector confidence.
Looking ahead, industry experts generally believe that the high-end jadeite market will continue to maintain steady growth. Ms. Hu, President of Christie's China, predicted: “Within the next five years, the average annual growth rate for top-tier jadeite and Hetian jade is expected to remain between 10%-15%. We anticipate that jadeite with unique designs, exquisite craftsmanship, and clear provenance will be more sought after. At the same time, with technological empowerment, innovative applications such as blockchain traceability and 3D printing assisted design will also bring new vitality and growth points to the jadeite market. Collectors are advised to focus on the '种水色工' (type, translucency, color, craftsmanship) of jadeite when investing, and choose reputable auction houses and dealers to ensure the authenticity and value of their collections.”
The success of this Christie's autumn sale undoubtedly injected a shot in the arm for the global art market, especially in the high-end jadeite sector, where its sustained strong performance has set a new benchmark for the market.
