【Hong Kong, May 18, 2026】Sotheby's recently concluded Spring Sale 2026 in Hong Kong once again showcased the vibrant dynamism of the high-end Asian jewelry market with its exceptional offerings and robust sales figures. The total sale achieved an impressive US$285 million, significantly exceeding pre-sale estimates, with an 88% sell-through rate. The highly anticipated jadeite jewelry segment performed particularly well, becoming the focal point of the auction.

The undisputed highlight of this auction was the natural Burmese jadeite bead necklace, aptly named “Verdant Radiance.” This necklace comprises 38 exquisite old-mine imperial green jadeite beads, ranging from 14.5mm to 16.8mm in diameter. Its intense, uniform color and fine, translucent texture make it a rare treasure in the market in recent years. After several rounds of intense bidding, the necklace was finally hammered down for an astonishing US$52 million, far surpassing its pre-sale estimate of US$35 million to US$45 million, and setting a new auction record for a jadeite necklace in the past five years. This selling price represents approximately a 25% increase compared to the average price of comparable pieces five years ago, fully demonstrating the growing appeal of top-tier jadeite in the global collecting community.

In addition to the “Verdant Radiance” necklace, several other high-quality jadeite bangles, cabochon rings, and carvings also achieved excellent results. For instance, a pair of vibrant green icy jadeite bangles sold for US$12.5 million, exceeding the upper estimate by 20%; a 25-carat imperial green jadeite cabochon ring also changed hands for US$8.8 million. Overall, jadeite pieces accounted for nearly 35% of the total sale value in this spring auction, with an average sell-through rate of 92%, indicating sustained demand for rare and high-quality jadeite in the market.

Ms. Wenfen Ye, Head of Jewellery, Sotheby's Asia, commented in an interview: “The outstanding performance of the 2026 Spring Sale, especially the strong momentum in jadeite jewelry, once again confirms Asia’s, particularly Greater China’s, central position in the global luxury market. We observe that collectors' demand for top-tier jewelry with both investment value and artistic beauty remains robust, especially for natural jadeite with clear provenance and exceptional quality, whose rarity dictates its firm prices and appreciation potential.”

Professor Li Ming, a senior jewelry market analyst, also shared his insights: “The data from this Sotheby's Spring Sale clearly indicates that global economic uncertainties have, paradoxically, prompted high-net-worth individuals to invest in more stable hard assets with long-term appreciation potential. Jadeite, as a treasure of Eastern culture, its unique aesthetic value and rarity make it an ideal safe-haven asset. In the coming years, we expect the prices of top-tier jadeite to continue to show steady growth, especially in mainland China and Southeast Asia, where new collector groups are emerging, injecting new vitality into the market.”

From a market trend perspective, this auction also reflected several significant characteristics: firstly, collectors' emphasis on provenance and certification has further increased, with authentication from reputable institutions becoming a key factor in sales; secondly, a younger generation of collectors is beginning to enter the high-end jewelry market, and their pursuit of design and uniqueness is bringing new aesthetic directions to the market; thirdly, online bidding participation has significantly increased, with global collectors conveniently participating in auctions through digital platforms, broadening the buyer base.

Looking ahead, with continuous global wealth growth and the expanding influence of Asian culture, Eastern jewelry art, represented by jadeite, is expected to occupy an even more prominent position in the global auction market. The success of Sotheby's Spring Sale 2026 undoubtedly injected a strong boost of confidence into the global jewelry market, foreshadowing a brilliant future full of opportunities and challenges.
