[Hong Kong, May 18, 2026] The highly anticipated Christie's Spring 2026 Auction concluded successfully yesterday, with the 'Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite' specialist sale performing exceptionally well. As the highlight of this auction, a series of high-quality jadeite cabochon lots saw active bidding, once again affirming the strong position and robust demand for top-tier jadeite in the collector's market.

This specialist sale featured a total of 25 meticulously selected jadeite cabochon lots, with 23 ultimately sold, achieving an impressive sell-through rate of 92%, far exceeding market expectations. The total transaction value reached a staggering HKD 185 million, representing a 15% increase compared to the same period last year. Among them, a natural Burmese jadeite cabochon ring, hailed as 'Imperial Green' grade, fetched a high price of HKD 48 million, significantly surpassing its upper estimate of HKD 30 million, becoming the highest-priced lot of the auction. The cabochon boasts a rich color, fine texture, and crystal-clear translucency, measuring 2.5 x 2.0 x 1.2 cm. Its rarity and perfection made it a focal point for numerous collectors. Another necklace composed of five uniformly sized and colored natural jadeite cabochons also sold for HKD 32 million, an increase of 28% over its estimate.

Ms. Shirley Shi, Head of Christie's Asia Jewellery Department, stated in an interview: "The outstanding performance of jadeite cabochons in this spring auction once again proves the scarcity of top-tier jadeite and its potential for value preservation and appreciation as a hard currency. Especially amidst increasing global economic uncertainties, collectors are more inclined to invest in art pieces with clear historical value and rare attributes. Imperial Green jadeite cabochons, with their unparalleled color and texture, consistently remain market darlings."

From a market analysis perspective, in recent years, high-quality jadeite cabochons, particularly those reaching 'Imperial Green,' 'Apple Green,' or 'Young Plant Green' color grades, and achieving 'Glassy' or 'Icy' translucency, have shown a steady upward trend in price. The transaction data from this auction further solidifies this assessment. On one hand, the increasing depletion of Burmese jadeite rough resources leads to a continuous reduction in the supply of high-quality jadeite, making it a rare commodity. On the other hand, the growing affluent class in Asian regions, especially mainland China and Hong Kong, continues to drive strong demand for top-tier jewelry, forming powerful purchasing power. Furthermore, jadeite, as an integral part of traditional Chinese culture, adds unique charm to its collection value due to its profound cultural heritage.

Mr. Li Ming, a senior jadeite market analyst, pointed out: "The sales performance of jadeite cabochons at this Christie's spring auction reflects the strong confidence the market still holds for exquisite jadeite. It is noteworthy that buyers' quality requirements for jadeite are becoming increasingly stringent; only those jadeites that meet collector-grade standards in 'texture, translucency, color, and craftsmanship' can command high prices in the market. Ordinary jadeite or items of slightly inferior quality have limited price growth potential and may even face the risk of correction. In the future, we anticipate that the prices of top-tier jadeite cabochons will continue to grow steadily, but market differentiation will become more pronounced, and the price gap between exquisite and ordinary items will further widen."

Looking ahead, with the gradual recovery of the global economy and the continued vibrancy of the Asian collector's market, top-tier jadeite, especially jadeite cabochons with unique historical provenance or perfect quality, will continue to be stars in the auction market. When investing, collectors should not only focus on their aesthetic value but also pay close attention to their rarity, origin certification, and appraisal certificates from authoritative institutions to ensure their investment value and collection potential.
