【Hong Kong, November 15, 2026】Christie's Hong Kong Autumn Sale 2026 concluded successfully yesterday, achieving a new record total of HKD 2.85 billion, with an impressive sell-through rate of 88.5%. The Chinese Works of Art section performed exceptionally well, particularly the Hetian jade handpieces series, which, with their outstanding quality and rarity, became the highlight of this auction, once again affirming the strong momentum of the high-end jade market.

A total of 12 exquisite Hetian jade handpieces were offered in this autumn sale, all of which were successfully sold, achieving a 100% sell-through rate. The total sales for this section reached HKD 220 million, significantly exceeding pre-sale estimates. Among them, a white jade seed material handpiece named “Auspicious Beasts Presenting Good Fortune,” weighing approximately 280 grams, with delicate and warm jade quality and exquisite carving, was hammered at HKD 48 million, nearly 40% higher than its pre-sale estimate (HKD 25-35 million), becoming the top lot among the Hetian jade handpieces. Another “Scholar Under Pine Tree” celadon jade handpiece sold for HKD 28 million, a remarkable 55.6% increase compared to its selling price of HKD 18 million in the Spring Sale of 2023, showcasing the immense appreciation potential of top-tier Hetian jade.

Mr. Jonathan Stone, Chairman, Asia and International Head of Chinese Works of Art at Christie's, stated after the auction: “The success of this autumn sale, especially the outstanding performance of the Hetian jade handpieces, once again demonstrates global collectors' deep interest and firm confidence in traditional Chinese art, particularly high-quality Hetian jade. We have observed that market demand for Hetian jade handpieces with clear provenance, superior jade quality, and exquisite carving remains robust, with prices showing a steady upward trend.”

Professor Li Ming, a senior jade market analyst, pointed out: “In recent years, with increasing global economic uncertainties, the safe-haven attribute of art investment has become increasingly prominent. As a treasure of traditional Chinese culture, Hetian jade's rarity, artistic value, and cultural significance make it an ideal investment target. In this auction, the selling prices of multiple Hetian jade handpieces significantly exceeded estimates, and even saw substantial premiums, reflecting that the market's pursuit of rare and exquisite Hetian jade has reached a new height. It is expected that within the next three years, the market price of high-quality Hetian jade will maintain a steady annual growth of 10%-15%.”

From the buyer composition, the bidders for Hetian jade handpieces mainly came from Greater China and Southeast Asia, but a small number of collectors from Europe and America also actively participated, indicating that the international influence of Hetian jade is gradually expanding. The participation of a younger generation of collectors has also injected new vitality into the market, as they focus more on the cultural connotations and artistic aesthetics of the collections, rather than just investment returns.

Looking ahead, the Hetian jade market will show a trend of polarization. On one hand, top-grade seed material and master-carved works will continue to operate at high levels, even setting new records; on the other hand, ordinary quality jade materials and modern crafts may face certain market pressures. For collectors, a deep understanding of Hetian jade identification knowledge, focusing on its origin, jade quality, skin color, carving, and cultural implications, and choosing exquisite pieces with collection value, will be key to navigating market fluctuations.
