March 2026 Jade Market Deep Dive: High-End Categories Lead, Structural Divergence Intensifies
[Beijing, April 5, 2026] The Chinese jade market displayed significant vitality in March 2026, with overall transaction volumes and attention remaining high. However, a clear structural divergence emerged within the market: scarce high-end categories, represented by top-quality jadeite and Hetian jade 'zi' (seed) materials, continued their strong growth momentum. Prices for these items were stable with upward trends, and some exquisite pieces even saw sharp increases. In contrast, mid-to-low-end common items faced certain market pressures, experiencing relatively larger price fluctuations, with some categories even seeing slight corrections.
According to incomplete statistics, the average transaction price for high-end jadeite (such as Imperial Green and Glassy Jadeite) increased by approximately 3% to 5% compared to the previous month, with premium rates for some top auction items exceeding 20%. The Hetian jade 'zi' material market also performed well, with prices for high-quality mutton-fat jade and exquisite 'zi' materials with unique skin colors growing by about 2% to 4% month-on-month. In contrast, the market performance of ordinary mountain Hetian jade and ice-glutinous jadeite (below ice-glutinous grade) was relatively stable, with some regions even experiencing a 1% to 2% price decrease.
Professor Li Ming, a senior industry analyst and invited researcher at the Gems & Jewelry Trade Association of China, pointed out: “The core driving force of the current jade market lies in the superposition of scarcity and cultural value. As consumers' understanding of jade culture deepens and wealth accumulates, more and more people view jade as an investment product that combines artistic appreciation, cultural heritage, and asset preservation and appreciation. Especially those top-tier jades whose resources are increasingly depleted, boast exquisite craftsmanship, and possess unique aesthetic value, their scarcity determines their price resilience and growth potential.”
Changes in supply and demand are significant factors driving the price increase of high-end jade in this round. On the one hand, the increasing depletion of high-quality jade mineral resources has led to a continuous reduction in raw material supply and rising mining costs. Taking Myanmar jadeite as an example, the difficulty of discovering new mines has increased in recent years, and the supply of high-quality raw materials continues to shrink. On the other hand, China's sustained economic development has created a group of high-net-worth individuals whose demand for high-end consumer goods is increasingly strong. Jade, as a traditional cultural symbol and a symbol of wealth, naturally becomes their preferred choice for investment and collection.
Furthermore, the trend of consumption upgrading has profoundly influenced the jade market. Consumers are no longer merely satisfied with owning jade; they pay more attention to its quality, craftsmanship, cultural connotations, and the stories behind it. This makes jade pieces with unique designs, exquisite carvings, and profound cultural heritage more favored, and their added value increases accordingly.
Looking ahead, Professor Li Ming believes that the structural divergence trend in the jade market will further intensify. The investment attributes of high-end jade will continue to be prominent, and its prices are expected to maintain steady growth. However, the mid-to-low-end jade market may face more intense competition, with branding, differentiation, and cultural creativity becoming key to breaking through. At the same time, with technological advancements, the improvement of jade identification and traceability systems will provide strong guarantees for the healthy development of the market. Investors and consumers entering the market should pay more attention to professional knowledge, make rational judgments, and avoid blindly following trends, in order to seize opportunities in a jade market full of opportunities and challenges.
