🔍 Bi Yu Identification: These Tricks Are a Must-Know!

1. Look at the Color: Bi Yu's 'Color World' is More Than Just One Green!

Many people think Bi Yu is just emerald green, but that's not true! Bi Yu's color range is wide, from spinach green, apple green, duck egg blue to porcelain white, and grayish-green. Truly high-quality Bi Yu should have a color that is uniform, pure, deep, and lustrous. For example, Xinjiang Manasi Bi Yu is famous for its rich spinach green, often accompanied by black spots (chromite). Russian Bi Yu is highly sought after for its bright apple green and fine texture. Qinghai Bi Yu, on the other hand, is mostly duck egg blue or grayish-green.

❌ Beware: If you see colors that are overly vibrant, unnatural, or distributed in blocks, bands, with distinct boundaries, it's likely dyed! Dyed Bi Yu's color usually floats on the surface; under a magnifying glass, you can see the dye concentrated in the fissures.

2. Observe the Structure: Fibrous Intertwining, Bi Yu's 'ID Card'!

Bi Yu belongs to the nephrite category, and its internal structure is a typical fibrous interwoven structure. This is key to its good toughness and resistance to breakage. Under a magnifying glass (preferably 10x or 20x), you'll see countless tiny fibrous crystals intertwined and interwoven, like a tangled mess, yet appearing dense and orderly. This structure gives Bi Yu its warm texture and unique 'cat's eye effect' (where light forms a bright line at a specific angle).

❌ Beware: If you see granular, layered, or glassy structures, it's definitely not Bi Yu! For example, dyed quartzite is granular, and glass is homogeneous and structureless.

3. Feel the Touch: Warm and Delicate, That's True Bi Yu!

Genuine Bi Yu, when held, will have a warm, delicate, and substantial feel. Its thermal conductivity is relatively slow, so it will feel a bit cool at first, but quickly merge with body temperature, becoming warm. Moreover, good Bi Yu will have an 'oily' surface, feeling as smooth as a baby's skin.
