Hey sisters, how are you all doing! I'm your jade investment note, and today I want to talk about my favorite 'ice beauty' - ice jadeite! 🧊 Many of you might find 'ice jadeite' a bit mysterious, but in fact, as long as you master a few key points, you can also become an appreciation expert! 💪

I've been in the industry for over ten years and have seen all kinds of jadeite. Ice jadeite, with its unique clarity and liveliness, has always been my favorite. Its texture, which is between glass jadeite and glutinous jadeite, has both the transparency of glass jadeite and a touch more delicacy than glutinous jadeite. It perfectly embodies the phrase 'ice-clear and pure'! ✨

💎 What makes ice jadeite 'icy'?

First, we need to understand the concept of 'ice jadeite'. It refers to the transparency of jadeite, like an ice cube, clear and transparent, but not completely structureless like glass jadeite. Its internal structure, though visible to the naked eye, is very fine, presenting a hazy, semi-transparent feel, as if the ice cube is about to melt, allowing light to pass through, but with a slight misty quality. This is the charm of its 'icy' nature!

🔍 Key elements for appreciating ice jadeite:

  • Transparency (Water Head): This is the most important indicator for judging ice jadeite. Good ice jadeite has excellent water head, allowing light to penetrate deeply, giving a clear-to-the-bottom feeling. My personal experience is that when illuminated with a strong flashlight, if the light can penetrate 3-5 millimeters, or even deeper, it's basically ice jadeite. If the light can only penetrate one or two millimeters, it might be ice glutinous or glutinous jadeite. I once saw an ice jadeite bracelet where the entire bracelet lit up when a light was shone on it. That feeling was truly stunning! 🤩

  • Texture (Gelling/Fluorescence): This is the soul of ice jadeite! 'Gelling' refers to the tightly arranged internal crystals of the jadeite, where light refraction creates a viscous visual effect, like glue, with a soft and resilient luster. 'Fluorescence' takes it a step further, referring to the strong, fluorescent-like light that emanates from the surface of the jadeite when illuminated, as if it has life. If an ice jadeite can achieve both gelling and fluorescence, its value will definitely double! Last year, I found a small ice jadeite Guanyin pendant in Yunnan. Although small, the gelling and fluorescence effect was particularly obvious. I felt like I had found a treasure! 💰

  • Color: The color of ice jadeite can be colorless, with floating flowers, or with faint green, blue, etc. Colorless ice jadeite is called 'ice white' in the industry, pure and flawless, like crystal clear ice and snow. If it has a touch of positive green, even if it's just floating flowers, its value will skyrocket! However, be wary of ice jadeite with overly vibrant or unnatural colors, as these might be treated B-grade or C-grade goods. I usually observe the color under both natural light and incandescent light to avoid misjudging color differences.

  • Flaws: Any natural jadeite may have flaws, and ice jadeite is no exception. Cotton, veins, cracks, and black spots are common flaws. For ice jadeite, cotton spots and subtle veins/cracks will significantly affect its aesthetics and value. However, if the flaws are not obvious, or are cleverly incorporated into the design, it might still be acceptable. I recommend that when choosing, you observe carefully, using a magnifying glass to look multiple times, especially for large pieces like bracelets, as even a tiny crack can affect its wear safety and value.

💡 My little tips:

* Look more, compare more: No comparison, no harm! Go to the market more often, look at different qualities of ice jadeite, and gradually you will develop your own judgment.
* Choose a reliable merchant: This is paramount! When purchasing high-value jadeite, always choose a reputable and qualified merchant, and ask for an authoritative appraisal certificate.
* Budget first: Ice jadeite is expensive, ranging from thousands to hundreds of thousands or even more. Choose the one that best suits your budget.
* Wearing comfort: Jadeite is spiritual. Choosing a piece that makes you feel comfortable and happy to wear is more important than anything else!

I hope today's sharing helps everyone better understand and appreciate ice jadeite. Remember, every piece of ice jadeite is a gift from nature, and its beauty is worth our careful appreciation and collection.
