I remember in 2015, a well-conditioned Russian Biyu bangle cost about several thousand to over ten thousand yuan. Now, a piece of similar quality costs at least thirty to fifty thousand yuan. The increase is at least 3-5 times! 📈

  • Increased Market Recognition: As people gain a deeper understanding of jade culture, Biyu's unique charm is being recognized by more and more people. Its calm and understated green color carries a classical charm, making it very elegant whether worn or played with. There are also more and more discussions about Biyu on Xiaohongshu, which indicates that market demand is expanding.

  • Price Depression Effect: Compared to top-tier jadeite, which can cost hundreds of thousands or even millions, high-quality Biyu is relatively affordable and easier to acquire. For friends with limited budgets who want to invest in jade, Biyu is undoubtedly an excellent entry point.


🔍 How to choose investment-grade Biyu?

Key points here! Not all Biyu is worth investing in. The following points are based on my experience, and you must remember them:

  • Look at the color: Spinach green is king! For investment-grade Biyu, the first choice must be 'spinach green.' That rich, deep, uniform green, like spinach leaves, appears dark green, but when viewed against light, it's a vibrant green. This is a typical characteristic of old-mine Russian Biyu. Those with grayish, dull colors, or obvious black spots, have much less appreciation potential. I have a Russian Biyu 'Wushi Pai' (peace pendant) with spinach green color, which I bought for 28,000 yuan. Now, a dealer offered 80,000 yuan, but I haven't sold it because I know it still has potential! 💚

  • Look at the texture: The finer, the better! Good Biyu must have a delicate and oily texture, feeling soft and smooth like a baby's skin. When viewed against light, the structure should be as fine and dense as possible, ideally without visible颗粒感 (graininess). Those with coarse structures, cotton-like inclusions, or stone flowers should be passed!

  • Look at black spots: The fewer, the better, but be rational! Black spots in Biyu are associated minerals and are almost unavoidable. However, for investment-grade Biyu, black spots must be few, ideally invisible to the naked eye, or extremely small, like 'sesame seeds.' If there are too many black spots affecting aesthetics, the value will be greatly reduced. However, some old-mine Biyu has a very charming 'cat's eye effect,' which is due to the neat arrangement of internal fibrous structures and is unrelated to black spots, actually adding value! 👀

  • Look at the shape and craftsmanship: Biyu pieces with exquisite carving and full, grand shapes have more collection value. For example, bangles, pendants, and carvings. Especially works carved by famous artists, the artistic value combined with the jade value leads to greater appreciation potential. I once bought a Biyu carving by a famous artist at an auction for 20% above the market price.
