Currently, the recognized authoritative appraisal institutions in China mainly include:
* National Gemstone Testing Center (NGTC): This is national level, with the highest authority. Their certificate is like the 'ID card' of jade, full of value!
* China University of Geosciences Gem Testing Center (GIC): Also a very professional institution, especially with a high reputation in jadeite appraisal.
* Provincial and municipal jewelry and jade quality supervision and inspection stations: For example, inspection stations in jade distribution centers like Guangdong and Yunnan are also relatively reliable.
Here's the key! If you get a certificate that says something like 'XX International Jewelry Appraisal Center' or 'XX Jade Culture Research Association', but you've never heard of it and can't find official website information, then be careful! Certificates from such 'bogus' institutions are often printed by merchants themselves to inflate prices, have no legal effect, let alone professionalism. I once saw a certificate that identified a common quartzite as 'ice-type jadeite', which is simply absurd! ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
Tip: After getting the certificate, immediately go to the official website indicated on the certificate and enter the certificate number, weight, and other information for re-verification. Information on certificates from legitimate institutions can be queried online, and the pictures, weight, and other information will correspond one-to-one with the actual item. If you can't find it or the information doesn't match, there's definitely a problem!
2. Interpretation of Core Information: A-grade, B-grade, C-grade, a single word difference makes a world of difference! ๐๐
The most important information on the certificate is the description of the jade's treatment method. Especially for jadeite, this directly determines its value!
* 'Jadeite (A-grade)': Congratulations, this is natural jadeite, without any artificial optimization treatment! Its value is the highest, and it's our goal. The certificate usually says 'Natural Jadeite' or 'Jadeite (A-grade)'.
* 'Jadeite (B-grade)': B-grade jadeite is treated with acid washing and glue injection. Its internal structure is damaged, its stability is poor, and over time it will change color, turn yellow, or even crack. The value of this jadeite is extremely low and basically has no collection value. The certificate may say 'Jadeite (Treated)' or 'Jadeite (B-grade)'.
* 'Jadeite (C-grade)': C-grade jadeite is jadeite that has been dyed on top of being B-grade. Its color is artificially dyed, very unstable, and may have potential health hazards. The certificate may say 'Jadeite (Dyed)' or 'Jadeite (C-grade)'.
