* Fly Wings: This is a unique feature of jadeite! Under natural light, use a magnifying glass (10x or 20x) to observe the surface or cross-section of the jadeite. You'll see some tiny, shiny, irregular scale-like reflections, just like a fly's wings. This is the reflection of the cleavage planes of the internal jadeite mineral particles under light. A-grade jadeite will have obvious 'fly wings', while B-grade and C-grade goods, after acid washing and resin filling, have a damaged structure and will not show this phenomenon.
* Orange Peel Effect: On the polished surface of jadeite, observe with the naked eye or a magnifying glass, and you'll see an uneven structure resembling an orange peel. * A-grade Jadeite: Has a glassy luster, with a smooth and delicate surface that reflects light strongly and clearly. When touched, it feels cool and smooth.
* B-grade Jadeite: Due to resin filling, the surface will exhibit a waxy or resinous luster, with weaker, even dull, reflectivity. It may feel slightly sticky to the touch.

  • Distinguish 'Color': Natural Color Roots vs. Surface Floating

* Color of A-grade Jadeite: Natural, layered, with color growing along the fissures of the mineral particles, showing a 'color root' phenomenon, with natural transitions and varying shades. For example, in a piece of green jadeite, you'll see the green 'growing' from within, with different depths and concentrations.
* Color of C-grade Jadeite: Is artificially dyed. The color is often too vibrant, uniform, and lacks layering. The color appears to float on the surface, or even accumulate in cracks, looking very unnatural. With a magnifying glass, sometimes dye accumulation in cracks can be seen.

  • Examine 'Structure': Fibrous Intertwined Structure vs. Loose Structure

* A-grade Jadeite: Has a dense internal structure, presenting a fibrous intertwined or granular structure. When illuminated with a strong flashlight, light penetration is strong, and the internal structure is clearly visible.
* B-grade Jadeite: After acid washing, the internal structure is damaged and becomes loose, filled with resin. When illuminated with a strong flashlight, light penetration is poor, and the interior will appear murky, even with bubbles.

  • Listen to the 'Sound': Clear and Pleasant vs. Dull and Muffled

* A-grade Jadeite: When suspended by a thin string and gently tapped with a coin or another piece of jadeite, it will emit a clear and pleasant metallic or stone chime sound, with a long echo.
