Hey sisters, it's your jade appraisal expert, Xiaoya! 🙋‍♀️ Recently, many sisters have messaged me, saying they want to buy a jade bracelet but are afraid of getting fakes, asking if I have any simple and practical appraisal methods. Don't worry, today Xiaoya will share my 'Five-Step Bracelet Appraisal Method' accumulated from years of practical experience, guaranteed to turn you into an appraisal pro after reading, easily avoiding those tricky 'B+C' goods! 💪

Step One: Observe 'Cui Xing' – The Soul Imprint of Jade ✨

'Cui Xing' (fly wings) is a unique structural feature of jadeite, and it's our first line of defense in authenticating it. It refers to the star-like, flake-like, or linear flashes on the cleavage planes of mineral crystals within the jadeite when illuminated by light. In the trade, it's also called 'fly wings' or 'sand stars'.

How to observe? Hold the bracelet under natural light, and use a magnifying glass (or observe carefully with the naked eye) to rotate the bracelet. You'll see tiny sparkling reflections inside, like the wings of a fly. The 'cui xing' of natural jadeite is randomly distributed, varying in size and direction. However, B-grade (acid-washed and resin-filled) and C-grade (dyed) jadeite, due to strong acid corrosion, have damaged internal structures, making their 'cui xing' blurry or even completely absent. I once encountered a 'high-ice type' bracelet at an exhibition, with vibrant green color and excellent translucency. But upon closer inspection, it completely lacked 'cui xing', confirming it was undoubtedly a B-grade product! Don't be fooled by its 'beauty'!

Step Two: Listen to the 'Tapping Sound' – Clear and Melodious is True Love 🎶

This is a very classic trick and an important indicator of jadeite's quality. Natural A-grade jadeite has a dense structure and good toughness. When gently tapped, it produces a clear, melodious sound, somewhat like a wind chime, with a lingering echo. B-grade and C-grade jadeite, due to their loose internal structure filled with resin, will produce a dull, short, or even hoarse tapping sound, like tapping plastic.

How to listen? Find a thin string (or use your hand) to suspend the bracelet, and gently tap the middle of the bracelet with a coin or an agate rod. Be careful not to tap too hard to avoid damaging the bracelet. In my personal experience, the clearer the sound and the longer the echo, the better the jadeite's 'zhong shui' (translucency and texture) and quality. Once, a friend bought a 'high-end' piece, but it made a dull sound when tapped. I immediately knew something was wrong, and later testing confirmed it was a B-grade product. Luckily, it was returned in time!

Step Three: Feel the 'Touch' – Cool and Smooth is the Real Deal ❄️

Jadeite is a type of jade, possessing good thermal conductivity. Natural jadeite feels cool and smooth to the touch. Even in hot summer, after wearing it for a while, it can maintain a relative coolness. Treated B-grade and C-grade jadeite, due to the resin filling, will have a plastic-like feel, feeling warmer and lacking the 'coolness' of natural jade.

How to feel? Place the bracelet against your cheek or the inside of your wrist to feel its temperature and texture. Natural jadeite will give you a sense of coolness, and its surface will be smooth and delicate, without any stickiness. I once touched a fake bracelet; although its surface was well-polished, it felt a bit 'rough' and lacked the 'moisture' of natural jadeite.

Step Four: Observe the 'Color' – Naturally Distributed with Layers 🌈

Jadeite's color is an important reflection of its value. The color of natural jadeite is naturally formed, usually unevenly distributed, with varying depths, concentrations, and shades, showing changes in 'color roots' and 'color forms', transitioning naturally and having a sense of layering. The color of C-grade (dyed jadeite) is often too vibrant, uniform, without color roots, or the color is distributed along cracks, appearing very unnatural and seeming to float on the surface. When observed with a magnifying glass, you might even see dye aggregation.

How to observe? Carefully observe the color distribution of the bracelet under natural light, checking for color roots and natural color transitions. If the color is too perfect and uniformly painted, you should be vigilant!

Step Five: Check the 'Certificate' – Authoritative Certification is Assurance 📜

While the first four steps can help you make a preliminary judgment, the safest and most authoritative method is to check the appraisal certificate. When purchasing a jadeite bracelet, always ask the merchant for an appraisal certificate issued by a nationally recognized jewelry and jade appraisal institution. The certificate will detail information such as the jadeite's name, weight, size, color, 'zhong shui', optical characteristics, etc. Most importantly, it will state whether it is 'natural A-grade jadeite'.

How to check? After receiving the certificate, verify that the photo on the certificate matches the actual item, and log in to the official website of the appraisal institution to query and verify the certificate number. Every time I buy a large piece of jadeite, I ask the merchant for a certificate and verify it on the spot to ensure foolproof safety. Remember, if there's no certificate or the certificate is not standardized, no matter how cheap it is, don't buy it!

Alright, that's all for today's 'Five-Step Bracelet Appraisal Method'! I hope these experiences can help everyone avoid detours and buy their desired genuine products when choosing jadeite bracelets! 💖 Remember, observe more, learn more, and compare more, and your discerning eye will get better and better!
