Hello sisters! I'm your appraisal expert, Sayu, and today we're going to talk about Hetian jade seed material, this little fairy that countless jade friends both love and hate! 😍 Why do I say both love and hate? We love its warm and restrained oiliness, delicate texture, and unique skin color; but we hate that fakes are rampant in the market, and if you're not careful, you might bring home a 'brick material' thinking it's a treasure! 😭

As an old player who has been in the jade circle for more than ten years and has handled thousands of seed materials, I deeply understand everyone's confusion when identifying seed materials. Today, I will share my exclusive secret tips with you, hand in hand, to teach you how to 'verify the identity' of Hetian jade seed material! 🕵️‍♀️

🔍 The 'Three Axes' of Seed Material Identification: Look, Touch, Listen!

The First Axe: Look – Details Determine Success or Failure!

  • Look at the skin color: This is the most intuitive feature of seed material. The skin color of genuine seed material is naturally infiltrated, with colors ranging from light to dark, transitioning naturally, varying in depth, and having 'pores' and 'sweat pores' structures. Imagine it, just like the pores on our skin, fine and real. As for fake skin? It's often dyed, with the color floating on the surface, dull and uniform, lacking layers, and you can even see traces of dye accumulation. I once saw a fake seed material whose skin color was so vibrant it looked like it had nail polish on, and you could tell it was 'technology and ruthlessness' at a glance! 😂

* Tip: A magnifying glass is your good helper! Use a 10x or even 20x magnifying glass to observe the skin color. You will find that the pore structure under natural skin color is very clear, while dyed skin appears blurry or granular.

  • Look at the pores: Seed material, after millions of years of scouring and grinding in the riverbed, will form a unique 'sweat pore' structure on its surface, just like the pores on our skin, fine, natural, and uneven. This is the 'fingerprint' of seed material, unique! While mountain material, Russian material, or Qinghai material imitating seed material, even after tumbling and polishing, it is difficult to imitate this natural pore feeling, often smooth or with mechanical grinding marks. I have an old seed material that I have treasured for many years. When a flashlight shines on its side, the dense pores are clearly visible, which is simply a blessing for those with obsessive-compulsive disorder! ✨

* Data Sharing: Studies have shown that the pore diameter of natural seed material is mostly between 0.05-0.2 mm, and the distribution is uneven, which is difficult for artificial means to replicate.

  • Look at the fissures: Seed material, during its formation, often has natural fissures due to geological movements and river erosion. These fissures are often infiltrated by the skin color, forming what is called 'skin and flesh connected' or 'stiff skin'. This, on the contrary, is strong evidence of genuine seed material! If a piece of seed material is flawless and has no fissures at all, then you should question it. Of course, it doesn't mean that having fissures necessarily makes it good material. We need to see if the fissures are natural and whether they affect the overall aesthetics and value. I personally prefer seed materials with small fissures, as they feel more storied.

The Second Axe: Touch – Feel its 'Vitality'!

  • Touch feel: Genuine Hetian jade seed material, when held, will have a warm, delicate, and smooth feeling, as if holding a piece of solidified fat. Even in cold winter, it will not feel as cold as glass, but will quickly absorb your body temperature. This 'oily feel' is unmatched by other jades. Fake seed material or mountain material imitating seed material will feel dry, stiff, and even a bit astringent when touched.

* Personal Experience: Every time I get a piece of seed material, I will first play with it in my hand for a while, close my eyes and feel its temperature and touch. That oily feeling emanating from the inside out is something no words can replace.

  • Touch oiliness: This is the soul of seed material! Good seed material, after playing with it for a period, will become increasingly oily, and you can even feel a 'suction' on your fingertips. This oiliness is determined by the jade's structural composition and is its intrinsic essence. As for fake seed material, no matter how much you play with it, it is difficult to achieve this effect, and it may even become drier the more you play with it.

The Third Axe: Listen – The 'Heartbeat' of Jade!

  • Listen to the sound: Gently tap two pieces of seed material (be careful, don't break them!), and you will hear a clear, pleasant, long, and melodious 'steel sound'. This sound is a reflection of the jade's high density and tight structure. As for fake seed material or inferior jade material, the tapping sound will appear dull, short, and even have a 'stone sound'.

* Operation Suggestion: You can hang the seed material with a cotton thread and gently tap it with another piece of seed material or a coin to carefully distinguish the differences in sound.

⚠️ Pitfall Avoidance Guide for Beginners!

* Don't be greedy for small advantages: Genuine Hetian jade seed material is a scarce resource and expensive. If you encounter 'seed material' with an unbelievably low price, it's 99% a scam!
* Look more, buy less: Before you are absolutely sure, go to more reputable jade stores, participate in more jade exhibitions, and handle more genuine seed materials to cultivate your 'jade sense'.
* Find reliable merchants: Choose merchants with good reputation and credibility, as they will provide professional appraisal certificates and after-sales service.
* Learning is endless: Jade appraisal is a science that requires continuous learning, practice, and accumulation of experience.
