Hey sisters, everyone! I'm Xiaoya, your jade lifestyle aesthetics blogger. 👋 Recently, many babies have messaged me, wanting to buy a Hetian jade pendant, but they're afraid of making mistakes and don't know how to choose. Don't worry, today I'm going to teach you hand-in-hand how to transform from a novice to a Hetian jade buying expert! 💪
As the 'National Jade', Hetian jade is warm and introverted, and has been loved by Chinese people since ancient times. But there are a dazzling array of pendants on the market, ranging from tens to hundreds of thousands, or even millions, with huge price differences. There's a lot of knowledge behind this! 🤔
💎 When buying a Hetian jade pendant, remember these core elements:
1. Jade quality is the soul, the most important thing!
* Fineness: This is one of the most important indicators for measuring the quality of Hetian jade. Good Hetian jade, when viewed with the naked eye, has almost no structure, and feels 'waxy' and oily to the touch. My personal experience is that the better the fineness, the more delicate the jade quality, and the easier it is to develop a patina when played with. For example, seed material from Xinjiang Hetian generally has very high fineness, many can reach the level of 'no structure under light', but the price is also relatively higher. While Russian material, Qinghai material, etc., also have good fineness, overall, Xinjiang seed material performs better in terms of fineness.
* Oiliness: Oiliness is the vitality of Hetian jade! Good Hetian jade looks like solidified suet, and after a few plays, the oiliness immediately appears. This oiliness is determined by the internal structure of the jade, not just simple surface polishing. I have seen many novices mistake polishing brightness for oiliness, which is a misunderstanding! True oiliness is introverted, emanating from the inside out. You can gently rub the jade surface with your fingertips to feel that slight resistance and oiliness.
* Whiteness: Whiteness is not necessarily better! Many merchants emphasize 'first-grade white', 'suet white', but excessive pursuit of whiteness may neglect the fineness and oiliness of the jade. True suet jade is that creamy white with a slight yellowish tint, white but not stiff, warm and mellow like butter. I personally recommend choosing a pendant with moderate whiteness but delicate and oily jade quality. After all, jade is for nurturing people, not for comparing whiteness. 😉
2. Craftsmanship is the skeleton, giving life!
* Design: Good design can make a piece of jade reborn. Whether it's traditional themes (such as Guanyin, Buddha, Pixiu) or modern minimalist styles, you need to see if it fits your aesthetic and wearing occasion. I personally prefer some niche pendants with a sense of design, which can show individuality and are not easy to be duplicated.
* Carving: The fineness of the carving directly affects the value of the pendant. Good carving has smooth lines, harmonious proportions, vivid character expressions, and realistic animal forms. Especially clever carving, which can make full use of the natural colors of the jade material, is a rare work of art. When I choose, I pay special attention to details, such as the nails and folds of the characters, and the texture of the animal's fur, all of which can reflect the skill of the carver.
3. See flaws clearly, treat them rationally!
* Cracks, veins, dirt, stiffness: These are common flaws in Hetian jade. Cracks and veins are hard flaws that will affect the firmness and aesthetics of the jade, so try to avoid them. Dirt spots and stiff spots depend on their size and location. If they are in an inconspicuous place and do not affect the overall aesthetics, they are acceptable. But if the flaws are too large or in a prominent position, they will greatly reduce the value of the pendant. Remember, natural jade will more or less have some small flaws, and perfect ones are extremely rare and expensive.
💡 My personal buying tips:
* Budget first: Find suitable pendants based on your budget. Don't blindly pursue high prices, what suits you is the best.
* Look more, buy less: When you are not sure at first, go to markets and exhibitions more, touch them more, and cultivate your own eyesight. I also paid a lot of 'tuition fees' at the beginning before gradually finding my way.
* Choose a reliable merchant: When buying Hetian jade, be sure to choose a reputable merchant, preferably one that can provide a certificate of authenticity. I generally choose physical stores or online stores with a good reputation.
* Eye缘 (Eye缘) is very important: When choosing jade, in addition to the above hard indicators, the most important thing is 'eye缘' (eye affinity). When you see a piece of jade and feel comfortable and like it, that's it! After all, jade is to accompany you, it will grow with you and become a part of your life.
