Hello everyone, I'm Zhang Mingyuan. Having dedicated over two decades to the jade industry, from an apprentice to a jadeite appraisal and investment consultant, I've personally witnessed the entire evolution of the jadeite market, from its initial fervor to rationalization, and now to diversified development. Today, I'd like to share some of my new perspectives on the current jadeite market, hoping to offer valuable insights for collectors and investors.

I. The Collision of Traditional Aesthetics and Modern Demands: Redefining Jadeite Value

In the past, the criteria for evaluating jadeite's value were relatively singular, primarily focusing on "texture (种), translucency (水), color (色), and craftsmanship (工)," with an emphasis on achieving the ultimate glass-like texture and imperial green color. However, with the rise of younger consumer groups, their aesthetic sensibilities have undergone significant changes.

Case Study: A few years ago, a superb ice-grade, vibrant green bangle might have fetched a price far exceeding a uniquely designed, exquisitely carved glutinous-grade floating flower pendant. But today, I've observed that many young buyers prefer the latter. They value the cultural connotations, design aesthetics, and wearing comfort of jadeite, rather than solely pursuing high texture and intense color. For example, some jadeite inlay jewelry incorporating modern design elements, even if their texture and translucency aren't top-tier, are highly sought after for their uniqueness and fashion appeal, with prices even surpassing traditional plain jadeite.

My View: The value of jadeite is expanding from a singular "material attribute" to "cultural attribute" and "artistic attribute." When making selections, investors should not only focus on the traditional "texture, translucency, color, and craftsmanship" but also pay attention to its design philosophy, carving artistry, and whether it aligns with modern aesthetic trends. Jadeite pieces that can perfectly integrate traditional culture with modern design will have immeasurable appreciation potential in the future.

II. Dual Assurance of Origin Traceability and Scientific Authentication: A New Cornerstone for Investment Security

With the advancement of technology, methods of counterfeiting jadeite have also become increasingly sophisticated. While traditional visual appraisal relies on extensive experience, it can still be prone to errors when dealing with some high-quality fakes. Therefore, origin traceability and scientific authentication have become crucial means to ensure investment security.

Case Study: A few years ago, a batch of jadeite claiming to be "Burmese old mine glass-grade" appeared on the market, fetching considerable prices. However, after professional instrument testing, it was discovered that many of them were B+C grade treated with high-tech methods, and some even contained synthetic jadeite. These fakes were difficult to distinguish with the naked eye, but through modern scientific methods such as infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy, their abnormal internal structure and composition were exposed.

My View: Future jadeite investment will place greater emphasis on "identity cards" and "health reports." When purchasing high-value jadeite, investors must request certificates issued by authoritative appraisal institutions and look for origin traceability information on the certificates. At the same time, for any questionable jadeite, it is advisable to use scientific methods for secondary authentication. For instance, some large auction houses and brand jewelers have begun to introduce blockchain technology to establish "digital archives" for each high-value jadeite, recording its entire journey from rough stone mining to finished product sales. This will undoubtedly greatly enhance the transparency and security of investment.

III. Niche Exquisite Pieces and Personalized Customization: New Opportunities in Market Segmentation

Against the backdrop of a generally rationalizing jadeite market, some niche exquisite pieces and personalized customization services are showing a trend of counter-cyclical growth.

Case Study: I once met a young collector who was not interested in traditional jadeite Buddha or Guanyin figures. Instead, he had a particular fondness for jadeite carvings with novel themes and unique craftsmanship. He commissioned a jadeite mountain carving based on Chinese mythological stories. Although its texture and translucency were not top-tier, due to its unique artistic value and cultural connotations, it ultimately sold for a price far exceeding the value of its original rough stone.

My View: The future jadeite market will become more segmented. In addition to traditional jadeite bangles and pendants, jadeite carvings and ornaments with unique artistic value and cultural connotations will receive more attention. Simultaneously, as consumers' demand for personalization increases, customized services will become a new growth point. Jadeite brands or studios that can offer unique designs, exquisite craftsmanship, and personalized services will gain an advantage in market competition. Investors can pay attention to artists or brands with distinctive approaches in design and carving, as their works often possess higher artistic added value and collection value.
