I. The Fusion of Traditional Appraisal and Technological Empowerment: Gem Identification is No Longer a "Mystery"

Firstly, traditional appraisal remains the cornerstone. I always emphasize that understanding the "种水色工" (texture, transparency, color, craftsmanship) of jadeite, and distinguishing between A-grade, B-grade, and C-grade jadeite, are fundamental knowledge that every investor must master. For example, a high-ice-grade, vibrant green bangle exhibits fluorescence, a gelatinous texture, and uniform color distribution—all observable by the naked eye and assessable by experience. Furthermore, judging internal structures like cotton, fissures, and cracks is crucial as they directly impact its value. I once encountered a collector who purchased a "perfect" imperial green cabochon at a high price. However, upon my meticulous observation, I discovered subtle internal cracks imperceptible to the naked eye. While not affecting wearability, its future appreciation potential was significantly diminished.

Secondly, technological empowerment is transforming the appraisal landscape. The application of high-tech equipment such as spectrometers, Raman spectrometers, and X-ray fluorescence spectrometers makes it impossible for the composition, structure, and treatment traces of jadeite to hide. These instruments can accurately analyze the mineral composition and chromogenic elements of jadeite, and even detect the glues and dyes injected into B-grade and C-grade jadeite. I recommend that for high-value jadeite, in addition to traditional appraisal confirming A-grade, it's advisable to introduce scientific testing reports from a third-party authoritative institution. This not only increases transaction transparency but also provides a more solid guarantee for investment. Personally, when handling large transactions, I always require the seller to provide an authoritative testing certificate and personally verify the consistency between the certificate and the physical item.

For example, a lavender jadeite reaching "spring with color" grade, if it possesses excellent texture and transparency, its market value is no less than that of green jadeite of comparable quality. I once personally acquired an ice-grade lavender bangle with rich and evenly distributed color. At that time, the market's understanding of lavender was not yet sufficient, and I purchased it at a relatively reasonable price. Today, the value of this bangle has multiplied several times, becoming a proud achievement in my investment career.

This indicates that investors, when choosing jadeite, should no longer be limited to a single color preference but should focus more on the "comprehensive value" of jadeite. This includes:

• Craftsmanship (工): The exquisite level of carving directly affects the artistic and aesthetic value of jadeite. A well-carved piece can turn something ordinary into extraordinary, enhancing the overall value of the jadeite.

• Rarity: Scarcity drives value. Whether it's a rare color, unique texture and transparency, or a master-carved piece, its rarity provides potential for appreciation.

Jadeite investment, like any other investment, requires strategy. Blindly chasing trends and believing rumors often leads to painful losses.

My recommendations are:

• Learning is the First Step: Deeply studying jadeite knowledge and understanding market conditions are the foundation for making correct judgments. Observing, asking, and comparing are the best ways to accumulate experience.

• Clarify Investment Goals: Is it for wearing, collecting, or short-term arbitrage? Different goals dictate different investment strategies. If it's for wearing and collecting, one can focus more on personal preference and artistic value; if it's for investment appreciation, one needs to pay more attention to market scarcity and future potential.

• Risk Control: The jadeite market experiences price fluctuations, and not all jadeite can preserve or increase in value. Diversify investments and act within your means, avoiding putting all funds into a single variety.

• Focus on the Source: Whenever possible, purchase jadeite from legitimate channels and reputable dealers to avoid buying fakes or treated items. If given the opportunity, a deep understanding of the origin and mining conditions of jadeite can also provide a deeper understanding of market trends. I have visited the Myanmar mining areas multiple times, personally experiencing the charm of rough stones, which has been immensely helpful in my judgment of jadeite value.

• Long-Term Holding: The value of high-quality jadeite often manifests over time. Short-term speculation carries high risks; long-term holding is the path to stable investment.
