【Hong Kong, May 18, 2026】Christie's, a leading global art auction house, successfully concluded its Spring 2026 auction today, once again confirming the robust vitality of the high-end jadeite market with impressive transaction figures. The total sales for this spring auction reached an astounding US$280 million, with a sell-through rate of 88%. Among them, the highly anticipated Imperial Jadeite Cabochon special sale performed exceptionally well, with multiple rare pieces setting new records for similar lots.
The undisputed highlight of this auction was a 15.6-carat 'Imperial Green' jadeite cabochon. Its rich and pure color, translucent texture, and lustrous sheen ultimately fetched a staggering US$25.5 million, significantly exceeding its pre-sale estimate of US$18 million, with a premium rate of 41.6%. This sale price not only broke the world auction record for a single jadeite cabochon but also once again highlighted the scarcity and value consensus of top-tier jadeite in the global collecting community. Another slightly smaller but equally exquisite 12.3-carat jadeite cabochon also sold for a high price of US$18.2 million, an increase of 25% over its estimate. The total sales for the entire jadeite cabochon special sale reached US$78 million, with a remarkable sell-through rate of 95%, demonstrating collectors' continued pursuit of high-quality jadeite.
“The performance of jadeite cabochons in this spring auction is exhilarating, especially the 15.6-carat 'Imperial Green,' whose sale price once again proves the counter-cyclical investment value of top-tier jadeite,” said Ms. Lina Zhang, Head of Christie's Asia Jewellery Department, in an interview after the auction. “In recent years, with increasing global economic uncertainty, high-net-worth individuals have shown a growing demand for scarce and value-preserving hard assets. Jadeite, especially those of 'Imperial Green' quality, due to its non-renewable nature and unique Eastern cultural heritage, has become a focal point for international collectors. We anticipate that market demand for high-quality jadeite will continue to see strong growth in the coming years.”
Mr. Li Ming, a senior jadeite market analyst, also commented on the auction results: “From the data, it is evident that despite the challenging overall economic environment, the high-end jadeite market has not been significantly affected; instead, it has shown an upward trend against the current. This is primarily because the supply of top-tier jadeite is extremely limited, while the collecting demand from the global affluent class is continuously expanding. Especially for jadeite cabochons with collectible quality, perfect condition, and clear provenance, their value growth potential is immense. The fact that multiple jadeite cabochons sold for prices far exceeding their estimates in this auction indicates the market's strong desire for and recognition of premium resources.”
From a market trend perspective, this auction further solidified the collecting philosophy of 'quality over quantity.' Collectors are more inclined to invest in exquisite jadeite pieces that excel in texture, transparency, and color, possess superb craftsmanship, and hold unique aesthetic value, rather than merely pursuing size. Furthermore, with the rise of a younger generation of collectors, their aesthetic appreciation for jadeite has become more diversified. Besides the traditional 'Imperial Green,' highly translucent, glass-like colorless or floral-patterned jadeite are also gaining favor, though the sovereign status of 'Imperial Green' remains unshaken.
Looking ahead, industry experts generally believe that against the backdrop of scarce supply and robust demand, the high-end jadeite market will continue to maintain steady growth. Particularly, jadeite treasures with historical provenance, from renowned private collections, or with unique stories, will see their added value further enhanced. For investors, a deep understanding of jadeite evaluation standards and choosing reputable auction houses and professional institutions for transactions will be key to seizing market opportunities.
