Hey sisters! 👋 I'm Xiaoya, your jade appraisal expert, and today I want to talk about a hot topic: AI jade appraisal! 🤖 Many of you have been asking, is AI appraisal reliable? Can it replace manual appraisal? Today, with my years of jade appraisal experience and several personal AI appraisal experiences, I'm going to give you an in-depth analysis!
✨ Why did I pay attention to AI appraisal?
To be honest, at first, I was skeptical about AI appraisal. After all, the charm of jade lies in its warmth, spirituality, and unique textures, which all require experience and feeling to judge. But with the development of technology, AI's capabilities in image recognition and big data analysis are getting stronger, and I started to wonder if it could play a role in the field of jade appraisal. 🤔
Many of my friends, due to busy work, lack of professional appraisal institutions in their area, or just wanting to quickly understand the general situation of their jade, have tried AI appraisal. Some have succeeded, and some have encountered pitfalls. As a senior jade enthusiast, I felt it was necessary for me to personally experience it and provide a more objective reference for everyone.
🔍 My first AI appraisal experience: surprises and limitations coexist
I chose several popular AI appraisal apps on the market for testing. I prepared three pieces of jade: one was my Hetian jade pebble hand-piece (genuine, with good skin color and texture), one was an ordinary jadeite pendant bought in a mall (A-grade, but with average clarity and texture), and another was a suspected Xiuyu imitation given by a friend (visibly plastic-like).
- Hetian jade pebble hand-piece: I took several photos from different angles and under different lighting and uploaded them. AI quickly gave the result: identified as Hetian jade, and gave an evaluation of “high-quality pebble material,” with detailed analysis of purity, oiliness, and other indicators. I compared it, and its analysis points were basically consistent with my experienced judgment. In some microscopic structures, AI's description was even more detailed, for example, it could identify the “sweat pores” characteristic of pebble material. 👍 Accuracy: Over 90%
- Jadeite pendant: AI also identified this jadeite as A-grade, but the descriptions of clarity, color, etc., were quite general. For example, it would say “glutinous type, light green,” but it couldn't give a more precise judgment on whether it was “fine glutinous” or “coarse glutinous,” or whether the green was “sunny green” or “bean green.” After all, the clarity and color of jadeite are ever-changing, requiring very professional experience to distinguish. 🤔 Accuracy: Around 70% (basic judgment accurate, details lacking)
- Suspected Xiuyu imitation: For this imitation, AI directly gave the conclusion “non-natural jade” and prompted “traces of artificial treatment.” I was very satisfied with this result! It can identify obvious fakes, preventing novices from stepping into traps. 👏 Accuracy: Over 95%
From my experience, AI performs quite well in basic jade type identification and authenticity judgment (especially for obvious fakes). It can identify the texture, structure, luster, and other characteristics of jade through big data comparison and match them with a massive database of genuine and fake items.
💡 Advantages and limitations of AI appraisal
Advantages:
* Convenient and efficient: Can be done anytime, anywhere, saving time and effort of going to an appraisal institution.
* Lower cost: Most AI appraisal apps are free or have low fees.
* Preliminary screening: For beginners, it can quickly rule out obvious fakes and avoid being deceived.
* Large data volume: AI can learn from massive jade images and data, theoretically being able to identify more features.
Limitations:
* Reliance on image quality: The clarity, lighting, and angle of photos will severely affect AI's judgment. If the image is blurry, AI is powerless.
* Lack of tactile experience: The warmth, feel, and tapping sound of jade are indispensable parts of manual appraisal, which AI currently cannot simulate.
* Insufficient detail judgment: For the clarity, color, fineness of flaws, craftsmanship level of jade, AI's judgment is often vague and lacks the depth and experience of manual appraisal.
* Inability to judge “artistic conception”: The value of jade sometimes lies not only in the material itself but also in the artistry of its carving, historical and cultural value, etc., which AI cannot understand and evaluate.
🌟 My advice: AI appraisal is auxiliary, manual appraisal is king!
Overall, AI jade appraisal is a very good tool that can provide us with a quick and convenient preliminary judgment. For beginners, daily play, or preliminary screening, AI appraisal is definitely worth trying. 👍
However, if you are buying high-value jade or have very high requirements for the quality of jade, then I strongly recommend seeking a professional manual appraisal institution to issue a certificate! After all, professional appraisers have rich experience, professional equipment, and rigorous procedures, and they can give the most authoritative and accurate judgment from all aspects of jade. 👩🎓
Xiaoya's warm tips:
- When using AI appraisal, try to take multiple high-definition photos in natural light, showing the jade from multiple angles.
- Don't rely entirely on AI's conclusions; use it as a reference.
- When buying valuable jade, be sure to ask for a formal appraisal certificate.
- Look more, learn more, and communicate more; improving your own jade appraisal ability is the hard truth!
