My AI Authentication Experiment Report:

  • First Piece: Hetian Jade Seed Material Bracelet (A-grade)

* AI Authentication Result: Generally identified as 'Hetian Jade', but for 'seed material' and 'A-grade', some apps could provide it, while others were vague. One app even gave the wrong conclusion of 'synthetic jade'! ❌
* My Comment: AI is okay at identifying broad categories, but for detailed categories and specific quality judgments, accuracy needs improvement. The skin color, pores, and oily luster of seed material, these details AI seems unable to perfectly capture.

  • Second Piece: Jadeite Bracelet (B-grade)

* AI Authentication Result: Most apps could identify it as 'jadeite', but for the 'B-grade' treatment marks, only one app gave a hint of 'suspected optimization treatment'. Other apps directly judged it as 'natural jadeite' and even gave high valuations! 😱
* My Comment: B-grade jadeite, after acid washing and glue filling, its internal structure has been damaged, and its luster and density will change. These microscopic features seem difficult for AI to accurately judge at present. This is a big trap!

  • Third Piece: Dushan Jade Pendant (Natural)

* AI Authentication Result: Almost all apps identified it as 'jadeite' or 'xiuyu'. Only one app gave the conclusion of 'chalcedony', which is still miles away from Dushan jade. 😅
* My Comment: This shows that AI's database and recognition algorithms are far from sufficient in terms of coverage and accuracy for some relatively niche but equally precious jade types. Dushan jade has rich colors and fine texture, which are significantly different from jadeite and xiuyu.

  • Fourth Piece: Glass Imitation Jadeite (High-imitation C-grade)

* AI Authentication Result: Surprisingly, two apps actually identified it directly as 'natural jadeite' and even provided market reference prices! The remaining three apps either said 'glass' or 'unknown mineral'.
* My Comment: The luster, density, and specific gravity of glass imitations are quite different from natural jade, but high imitations are very realistic in color and texture. AI performs very unstably when facing this 'trick'. This is a disaster for novices!

  • Fifth Piece: Southern Red Agate (Natural)

* AI Authentication Result: This piece had the highest recognition rate, with all apps accurately identifying it as 'Southern Red Agate'.
* My Comment: It seems that for jade with more obvious characteristics, AI's recognition ability is still good. The cinnabar spots and gelatinous feel of Southern Red are relatively easy to identify features.

My Conclusion:

After this experiment, my conclusion is: Current AI authentication can be used as a preliminary reference, but it should never be used as the final basis for authentication! Especially for high-value jade, or those difficult-to-distinguish fakes, AI's judgment still has great limitations and risks of misjudgment. ⚠️

  • Examine the structure: With the aid of a magnifying glass (10x or 20x), observe the internal structure of the jade. Natural jade will have natural cotton wool, textures, cracks, etc., while B-grade jadeite will have acid-etched mesh patterns, glue bubbles, and other features. C-grade jade may have color floating on the surface, not penetrating deep into the texture.
