I chose three AI appraisal apps with high download volumes and relatively good reviews in the App Store and Android app stores (to avoid advertising, I won't name them here, you know what I mean 😉). Actual Test Process and Results Revealed!

* Hotan Jade Seed Material: The result showed 'Hotan jade, genuine, origin Xinjiang'. ✅ It described characteristics like fine texture and good oiliness, and also provided a market reference price range (slightly lower than the actual value, but in the right direction).
* Emerald A-grade: The result showed 'Emerald A-grade, ice-type, positive green'. ✅ Accurately identified the type, water, and color, and gave an evaluation of 'has collection value'.
* Quartzite Jade: The result showed 'Emerald B+C grade, recommended for inspection'. ⚠️ Although it didn't directly point out it was quartzite, the prompt for B+C grade and recommendation for inspection was relatively cautious and responsible.
* Xiaoya's Comment: This app performed moderately well, with decent identification ability for genuine items, but still conservative for fakes.

App 2: 'Pocket Appraiser'
* Operation Experience: In addition to photos, it also required recording a short video to display the jade from multiple angles. It took a bit longer, but was said to obtain more information.
* Hotan Jade Seed Material: The result showed 'Hotan jade, natural seed material, high density, good oiliness'. ✅ It even analyzed the cause of skin color formation, showing improved professionalism. The market price given was also closer to the actual value.

* Quartzite Jade: The result showed 'Quartzite, not natural emerald'. ❌ Wow! It directly named it as quartzite! And detailed the physical property differences between quartzite and emerald (such as refractive index, density, etc.), very professional!
* Xiaoya's Comment: This app's performance really surprised me! Its ability to identify fakes was significantly stronger, and it used professional terminology appropriately and with depth.

App 3: 'AI Jade Appraisal'
* Operation Experience: The interface was cool, claiming to combine spectral analysis technology. After uploading photos, the waiting time was the longest, about 1 minute.
* Hotan Jade Seed Material: The result showed 'Chalcedony, not Hotan jade'. ❌ A huge surprise! It actually identified Hotan jade seed material as chalcedony! This is a world of difference!
* Emerald A-grade: The result showed 'Natural emerald, A-grade'. ✅ Barely passed, but no more detailed description.
* Quartzite Jade: The result showed 'Natural emerald, B-grade'. ❌ Also incorrect, although it identified it as treated, the material judgment was wrong.
* Xiaoya's Comment: This app's appraisal results were very disappointing, especially with a major error in judging Hotan jade. It seems that no matter how cool the technology, the database and algorithm are king.

My Personal Summary and Recommendations:

After this actual test, my feeling is: AI jade appraisal, for now, can only be used as an auxiliary tool and cannot be fully relied upon! They have decent accuracy in identifying some typical, obviously genuine items. But once they encounter high imitations, or situations where jade characteristics are not so obvious, AI's judgment will be greatly reduced, and even serious misjudgments may occur.

Why do AI appraisals 'fail'?

  • Important Transactions: Be sure to seek professional authoritative institution appraisal certificates! This is the most guaranteed method.

  • Look More, Learn More: Get more exposure to physical objects, communicate more with experienced jade friends, and improve your own discernment.

  • Don't Be Greedy: The jade market is deep, and money doesn't grow on trees. Be wary of prices far below market value.
